No one on Capitol Hill could fail to be impressed by IV's exceptional organization and by the strength and the reasonableness of it's message. The NYTimes and Washington Post coverage confirms that IV is an organization with a major role to play in crafting future legislation. Well done all!!!

Folks, don't make travel plans based on the approval e-mail that will be sent of automatically from USCIS. Mine & my wife's application's were approved and mailed nine days ago (6/18) and we made travel plans for yesterday (6/26) . Guess what. I got my approval notice in mail only yesterday and my wife's approval doc never came. We have to cancel the whole trip now.
Also, USCIS updated the status on our AP's four days later after the approval e-mail was sent saying the documents were mailed only on 6/22. Called the USCIS customer service three times and I got three different answers.
1. We sent approval notice on 6/18 and will be sending the AP document soon (In fact there is no such thing called approval notice and AP separately. This guy has no idea what he is talking about at the USCIS)
2. We sent the approval notice on 6/18 and confirmed that the document is out in the mail where in fact the document I received yesterday had a USPS stamping day of 6/22.
3. We sent the document on 6/22 and you should be gettting them in less than 30 days. If not please give us a call back.
Lesson learned. Don't trust USCIS and USPS delivery system and don't make travel plans unless you have all the doc's in hand.

What about the people with earlier priority dates and already in the queue?
I guess this is what DOS is looking at.

You got me wrong. I am not saying that, we are safe side filing this way.
Its better filing than not doing anything ....As simple as that .......
If people get their receipt, well and good ....or else just file and forget .....
But dont sit idle just because ur attornery does not want to file ....
Dont think too much about the mail room or the employees or the contractos there or whoever ...........As I said, if u have receipt well and good, or else just file with other docs, but do file ....

It's important to hold the meeting soon as IV core is planning major actions in the coming days. It's highly critical to get organized ASAP without any further delay. There'll be future meetings soon, if there are major actions planned in coming days. Those who miss the event (due to unavoidable circumstances) can attend future meetings which can be held in Farmington Hills, Novi, Flint etc. based on participation.
I have no issues driving to Novi, Farmington Hills, Novi or Lansing for that matter. When I can go all the way to DC, I can drive anywhere in MI to attend the meeting. The idea behind choosing Troy is that majority of participants need not travel long distance to accomodate one or two members. As of now majority is from Oakland County. If it turns out that majority is from Lansing, Flint, Canton... wherever, I'll drive down there.
There's no need to feel left out if any are from far off places (Lansing etc.) and can't drive down to Troy. You can participate by calling the cell numbers of the participants (if any of you PM me, I can give mine). However, members living nearby need to appear in person (cell-phone participation will not be entertained)
I live in Lansing. However, I am out of town on 10/20. Can we have another option if it is not too much hassle for all of you?

I called the USCIS just now, and they told me that they can tell the receipt number to ONLY my attorney or my employer, provided its already in the system. I filed on July 5 ( NSC), and hasn't got the receipt number yet. There is only one person in my company to handle hundreds of GCs, and the person is very busy processing all these I-485s, and will not pick the phone for any enquiries, no reply for emails etc. so i am stuck! so i dont know whether they encashed the check or not!

I recieved my EAD earlier this week.
I had applied on May 27th, checks got cashed 28th and receipt notice sent on 29th. Our AP's were approved June 2nd - but havent received the AP copies yet!
Now thats a refreshing change of pace from TSC!!
The validity of my EAD is 1 year....but my spouses EAD is not approved yet. So I am waiting and watching if it stays unapproved beyond June 30th - will it have a validity of 2 years or 1 year??
Right now the optimist in me chooses to see the glass half full.....maybe I got a 1 year EAD cause my GC will be approved in the next 1 year :D :D

Congratulations and enjoy your green card! Don't worry about the priority dates not being current when yours was approved. My green card was approved in September 2007, sometime after the July fiasco wherein the PD for all categories became unavailable. Since my gc approval, I've been in and out of the US, and I hadn't had any single problem getting back in.

To any member who has been looking at some of the posts since April/May of this year it will be apparant that there has been an attempt by the ultra conservative, anti-immigration groups to create a divide among legal and so called illegal immigration issues. It was good to see that most members perceived this and stayed away from singing the legal vs illegal immigration tune.
Now comes the lame attempt to play on your fears again. What would happen to you if all these so called "illegals" were to get in line ahead of you? The knee-jerk reaction is so obvious. If you see deeper, you will find that all this is but wenting of frustration by the anti-immigration groups on their major loss in the recent elections.
There is a precedent for this behaviour. After the CIR was passed in Senate in May earlier this year, these same anti-immigration group members posted so many inflamatory posts that created a bad vibe on this forum. Well today is a redo of that. Just count the number of posts and you will know what I mean. ;) I urge all members to look at the new ray of hope provided by the change in the new congress and ignore attempts to dampen your enthusiasm in garb of fair and balanced aka an anti-immigration spin :)
