My I-140 was approved April 30,2007. The appoval letter indicated that not yet elligible for change of status. The I-485 was returned together with the checks we paid. Please clarify and what can I do next other than waiting?

The big news is that the masters cap was hit as of December 24th. I had been predicting since last summer that this 20,000 quota would be hit in the last week of the year and the pace of usage stayed extremely consistent. The general quota has 7,700 visas of 65,000 remaining as of December 31st and the rolling four week average is now running at just over 1500. We have seen a modest up tick in usage since the masters cap ran out, but not as much as might be expected. It looks like we've got five to six...

Comprehensive Immigration Reform introduced in Congress - "recapture" of previously unused visa numbers (http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/press-release/comprehensive-immigration-reform-introduced-in-congress-130073.php)

Meissner pointed out that CIR ASAP would attempt recapture unused visas from the past and apply them to reducing the visa backlog. Recapturing unused visas from 1992 as the bill proposes, could yield more than 100,000 visas, Meissner estimated. (http://www.hstoday.us/content/view/11571/149/)

    Hello everyone,

I obtained my F1 visa in Aug,2001 for 5 years and I initially came here for M.S. I have continued for PhD in 2003 and visited India every two years. My F1 expired in Jul,2006 but my I-20 is valid until Dec,2008.The real problem is that I have applied for Canadian PR this Oct and expecting to get it by Oct,2008.
Once I get my PR, I have to go to Canada for Visa stamping and my questions are related to this:
    1) Since my F1 expired, Can I come back to US after PR stamping, without needing an F1 visa.?
    2) Is it advisable to get my F1 visa stamping in India or Canada next year i.e in Oct 2008, or would it be too late? (since that would be two years after visa expiry).

PS: I wanted to get my F1 stamping only if it were necessary to go to India.

Any suggestions would help me a lot and thanks so much in advance.

    Dear friends,

I was just checking my H1b extension status and it seems that it got approved (3 weeks time). while looking for my H1b extension status i happen to find the link below,

USCIS: National Processing Volumes and Trends (http://dashboard.uscis.gov/)

It gives the processing trends by month based on trends or volume of application processed. This dashboard is for all applications forms submitted to USCIS, you can select form type, office and chart type. Data can also be downloaded in CSV raw format for analysis.

My appologies if you guys already knew about this.

    Thanks.

is it true that there are no limit to the number of H1B work visas handed to individuals who work in a University?

meaning that I can seek employment with a university anytime and get a H1B relatively easy?

can some kind souls please comment?

    Hi,
My company filed for my GC in June'07. They goofed up and filed under EB-3 instead of EB-2. The company apologized and is ready to change my filing to EB-2. I am wondering whether this would be a good step? Following are my details.
    - My PD is June07
    - Labor is approved (in 1 week)
    - I-140 approved
    - My 6 yrs on H1 were completed in July09
    - I have received 3 yr H1 ext
    - Me & Spouse both have received EAD (I am not using my EAD card)

I am not tracking the progress of visa number availablilty, but I presume that EB-2 would anyday be better than EB-3.
Please advise whether chnaging to EB-2 would be a good idea?

    rgds,
    susvin

I think we need to expose employers who are taking advantage of us in different ways just because we are stuck with them due to retrogression. This way if we cannot change the legislation right away we can atleast scare the crooks by exposing them so that they cannot trap new people.

Yes! First start out with your VA state chapter.

As spring approaches, Washington DC's Kabuki Theatre plans a new production. A mash-up of Kafka and Beckett, "Waiting for Barack" will begin with a casting call on March 21 as thousands of would-be thespians, consisting mainly of immigration reform activists, are expected to descend on Capitol Hill, harboring dreams of a lead role in what they hope will be an epic immigration performance. Not since 1986 have the wonkish theatregoers of Washington been so excited. Then, "IRCA's Morning in America" was the talk of the town and the nation. The new show's producers, three well-known impressarios (optimistic, Chuck Schumer, fretful...
