I was laid off and since then I have been receiving my unemploment insurance from state of texas. I have my EAD and have been actively looking for a job. 23 (out of 31) of the co-sponsors for HR 5882 are Dems. not to mention the main sponsor is also Dem.
I did not say all of the dems, by same token not all republicans support immigration (legal or otherwise).
What I am saying is that generally, republicans have (even if it is to spite the efforts of people pushing illegal immigration) been more supportive of legal than illegal immigration.
While many democrats have been supportive, the one of the main reasons for the delay are the dems themselves, their crappy CHC, who dont want to allow any immigration bill till the illegals are elevated on the pedestal. The Dem leadership have put the immigration issue a hostage to the whims of CHC.

It takes different things to motivate different people, which is why I am looking for real feedback to improve moving forward. I'm sure you understand, politely asking once or twice many not get through the flurry of daily posts that happen on this board :)

I bought my own private jet and I travel in that only. On top of it , to keep an eye on my own private jet's schedule(which flies only for me) I got website developed as well.
Also, I got 5 strippers (sorry air hostess) to entertain me during the flight. Guys if you want to fly in my Private jet and avail all the facilities on board please call my dreamland office and speak to Ms. Fantasy and book up a ticket to neverland.

USCIS has become the Cash cow of the Cash strapped US govt. We are the chickens whose feathers are being skinned.
Man...looks like they are working like crazy to get the EADs approved. My spouse's application: Recieved on 9th June, 08 and card production ordered on the 25th June, 08. 16 days...they are doing everything possible to save some money for USCIS(assuming the EAD they mailed is a 1 year one). I wonder why they even came up with the 2 year EAD when their plan is to do this.

Also, as we know the severity of the retrogation is not completely due to visa number unavailability. USCIS never used the full 140k - many years - due to the inefficiency of their process, FBI name check backlogs, may be work force shortage etc. We are beginning to see some improvements in those areas. There is an increased awareness of EB backlogs due to efforts of IV. I would say, the future is looking promising.

We filed married filing joingly and received our tax returns and no stimulus rebate. Can we re-file our tax return by filing separately this year (i.e. extension/amendment within 3 months?) Has anyone done this? Please let me know.

No you can't. You must have filed separately. You could have amended your return to file jointly, but not the other way around.

I think a change of leadership of IV is critical if we have to get anywhere. IV has not been able to achieve a single thing in all of its existence. Not a single thing, nada, zitto, zapata. Not disclosing the issues they are working on, not disclosing how the funds are distributed, not disclosing the lobbyist they are using. Who in the world calls that leadership!
That is the reason that no one wants to contribute. First get some results, show people results for what they have paid for. Then ask for more money. Most people I talk to are confident that IV will achieve nothing given their track record. I tried to convince a colleague to join IV. He bet with me that they will not be able to achieve even this filing I-485 issue. He bet that he will join and pay if they did.
I know IV works like dIVorced wIVes club and saying anything negative is taboo. Anyone saying anything negative is crushed with (p)curses. Only good mushy things are allowed here. So here it is: We will get our GCs by the end of the month. Hallelujah!
But I am writing this for the benefit of IV and please take this as constructively as you can. As a member, I have full right to suggest a change of leadership when I think it can help.
Microsoft has not been able to achieve raise in H1 quota in last 3 years ever since it has become stuck at 65,000. Maybe Bill Gates should fire his entire lobbying staff in DC. Change of leadership. US chamber of commerce could not get CIR done last year. Maybe its time for change of leadership in US chamber of commerce too. Technet and CompeteAmerica, after spending 10 times more than IV could not even get the smallest version of SKIL bill passed even though they tried and assured something will happen in lame duck session. Maybe they should be fired by their employers. Unitedfamiles could not get family based immigration reform. They should be fired too.

CIR is going to be back for sure no doubt about it and when it comes back it is going to be the same bill. Harrry Reid is just creating a drama so that he can reduce the number of amendments introduced by the republicans. There are currently more than 30 to 40 amendments remaining, with this drama harry reid is trying to reduce the amendments to about 5 or 6 more amendments.
We should try something like applying for 485 without priority date but even the cantwell cornyn amendment does not have this provision
There is a SLIM chance that CIR might come back this year, but if this CIR is taken again with its current provision for the EB Category and H1B in it, it is very bad for many of us.
Plan B, I think must be, trying to insert or get some sort of SMALL provision that would alleviate the problem for vast majority of us, into some appropriation bill (Read some where there will be 11 appropriation bill taken up this summer) as the appropriation bill must have to pass for the government to function.
I would either try for filing AOS while visa numbers are not available with an extra fee of $1000… or recapture of unused visas from previous years and use them once without country limit might help. As long as we are not asking for some thing new or more, but like recapture, change of process to ease the current problem, etc might have a SMALL chance.

Going the earned path would not alienate many members who may not have contributed recently - but nevertheless are still contributing otherwise. People who have contributed in the past can be retroactively given access for a month for every $25 they've contributed.

I thought only who have advanced degree from US universities in STEM with 3 yrs exp are exempt from quota. That's what the talk all over the media. I am not sure how this is going to be, because 3 years of US experience is not very hard criteria to meet for which some of the votings won't go well. But have to wait and see.
Here is what the amendment specifically says and this exempts all US Masters/Ph.Ds and foreign masters/Ph.D in STEM with 3 years experience.

`(5) WORLDWIDE LEVEL FOR MERIT-BASED EMPLOYER-SPONSORED IMMIGRANTS.--
``(A) IN GENERAL.--The worldwide level of merit-based employer-sponsored immigrants under this paragraph for a fiscal year is equal to--
``(i) 140,000, plus
``(ii) the number computed under subparagraph (B).
``(B) ADDITIONAL NUMBER.--
``(i) FISCAL YEAR 2007.--The number computed under this subparagraph for fiscal year 2007 is zero.
``(ii) FISCAL YEAR 2008.--The number computed under this subparagraph for fiscal year 2008 is the difference (if any) between the worldwide level established under subparagraph (A) for the previous fiscal year and the number of visas issued under section 203(b)(2) during that fiscal year.''.

``(I) Aliens who have earned a master's degree or higher degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and have been working in a related field in the United States in a nonimmigrant status during the 3-year period preceding their application for an immigrant visa under section 203(b).

``(i) have extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim and whose achievements have been recognized in the field through extensive documentation; and
``(ii) seek to enter the United States to continue work in the area of extraordinary ability.
``(K) Aliens who--
``(i) are recognized internationally as outstanding in a specific academic area;
``(ii) have at least 3 years of experience in teaching or research in the academic area; and
``(iii) who seek to enter the United States for--

``(II) a comparable position with an institution of higher education to conduct research in the area; or
